Virelangues d'Ouzbékistan
bilingual Uzbek-French

Translation: Rémy Dor

Preface : Rémy Dor

Virelangue or Tongue twister : a word, series of words, sentence, or series of sentences meant to be repeated rapidly so as to triumph over difficulties in pronunciation. At the same time prose and poetry, riddles, proverbs, and songs... Though Uzbekistan is famous for its literature, classical music, and architecture – all that which constitutes Culture with a capital "C" – its popular culture is less well known. These Uzbek and Qaraqalpak tongue - twisters, gathered from all over Uzbekistan, reveal the fundamental beliefs, attitudes, and practices of the country’s inhabitants. The vocabulary elements permit the reader to vary the proposed translation of the original text.
