Manuel de tibétain standard (Manual of standard Tibetan)

Language and civilization

Author of preface

Claude Hagège

The objective of this Manuel de tibétain standard (Tibetan language manual) is to present the standard form of the language of the "Country of Snow" as it developed from Lhasa. Standard Tibetan is spoken as much today in Tibet as it was during the diaspora. The manual also aims to introduce the student to fundamental aspects of the Tibetan civilization and Vajrayana Buddhism.
This method includes an introduction to Tibetan language (pronunciation and transcription of sounds, writing), a section containing forty-one lessons and a section comprising several studies on classical Tibetan and diverse grammatical and linguistic explanations. One of the appendices contains a series of recapitulative charts. Three glossaries complete the book. The manual is illustrated by numerous drawings and by colour photographs, and is accompanied by two maps, one referring to administrative regions and the other to linguistic regions. The MP3 CD accompanying the book were recorded in Lhasa.
