Manuel de kanji usuels (Manual of Ordinary Kanji)

Acquérir la maîtrise de 1 945 jôyô kanji et de 1 257 composés d'usage courant (Towards the aquisition of 1,945 Jôyô Kanji and of 1,257 compound terms in common usage)

The Japanese language uses some 5,000 kanji, all originally Chinese characters with the exception of a few created specifically for Japanese. Reading an average newspaper or magazine requires an understanding of about 1,945 of them. Students of Japanese master the kanji characters in stages over the course of nine years of education. In comparison, the effort required of adults learning Japanese is much more intense. It is for these adult students that this guide was designed. Two indexes, organized by number of pen strokes and by readings, make this text easy to consult.
