ALCPU

ALPCU, a European Project to discover the languages of Central and Eastern Europe.

Within the European program, SOCRATES-LINGUA, the ALPCU project, conceived at the initiative of L'Asiathèque - Maison des langues du mondes and directed and realized by INALCO, is co-financed by the European Commission. The mission of the ALPCU project is to produce innovative language methods for beginning and self-taught learning in three languages – Bulgarian, Slovak and Slovenian – taking advantage of the newest foreign language teaching methods.

Each method contains 25 didactic units for a total of 80 to 120 hours of lessons, presented on an interactive CD-Rom and accompanying book. The CD-Rom includes texts, images, sounds, videos and self-recording exercises. The book presents the texts (the dialogues from the lessons and videos), game-like activities, grammatical flashcards and a double lexicon.

The target audience:

The ALPCU language methods are designed for French-speaking adult beginners, over 16 years of age.

An endorsed and approved level: A1 + A2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

After following and completing the activities in the textbook and CD-Rom, the student will be able to :

- Maintain and initiate simple conversations on a variety of subjects concerning everyday life;
- Understand common expressions and to read descriptions of places and public events;
- Understand the basic cultural references of the country.

Pedagogic Principles:

1. The discovery, systematization and appropriation:

- Lesson progression organized around communication competency;
- Reference to documents taken directly from daily life;
- A comparative approach of French to the language in question, with totally original content;
- Phonetic, grammatical and lexical notes and resources;
- A large collection of contextualizing and reinforcement activities.

2. Auto-construction, auto-correction and auto-evaluation :

- Presentation of the language in its diverse composition;
- Concrete situations using the basic structures of the language;
- Textual, visual and audio elements permit a better access to the senses;
- Interactive exploration of documents with multiple applications;
- Interaction and complementary use of both CD-Rom and book.

3. To motivate, entertain, and inspire confidence:

- A flexible navigation, ergonomic interface, hypertext links;
- Enriching and spontaneous dialogues facilitate conversation skills;
- Utilization of game principles and linguistic aesthetics;
- Evocation of cultural facts through linguistics;
- Didactic objectives clearly defined in each unit.
